Discussion will be led by Missouri Beef Industry
Council
(MACON) – The Macon County
Cattlemen will host an informational meeting on the Missouri Beef Checkoff. The
regular meeting of the association is open to the public and will be held on
Monday, December 7, 2015 at Lolli Livestock Market in Macon. Refreshments will
be served.
Mark Russell, CEO of the
Missouri Beef Industry Council will lead a discussion on the benefits to
producers from the beef checkoff and how the investment impacts export demand,
beef safety, new product development and domestic beef consumption.
Producer meetings are being
held throughout the state to help cattle producers understand the investments made
by a producer-elected board on behalf of the cattlemen throughout the state.
Currently, Missouri beef
producers invest more than $2 million in beef checkoff dollars each year to the
checkoff program which collects an average of $81 million a year, nationally.
50% of Missouri’s portion remains in the state for promotion, research and
education efforts. The checkoff amount has not seen an increase since it
was enacted in 1986. Russell will address any questions producers have
regarding the future of the checkoff in the state and the estimated return on
investment over the past 10 years.
The main goal of the checkoff
program is to increase and drive beef demand worldwide through promotion,
research, consumer and producer education efforts.
